  • PLUS advises cyclists not to use its highway

KUALA LUMPUR: Highway concessionaire Plus advises the cyclists to avoid using its highways as it might be dangerous for them due to the differences in speed of bicycles and other vehicles.

In fact, under the Road Transport Act 1996, bicycles are forbidden from using highways, said PLUS Corporate Communication general manager, Khalilah Mohd Talha, said in a statement here today.
Even though PLUS highways have a wide emergency lane, she stressed that it is still dangerous for the cyclists to use it, as other vehicles might go out of control and skid into them.
Thus, she said, Plus Ronda teams were assigned to prevent such activity for their own safety and that of other highway users.
"Therefore, those who see such activity (cyclists on the highways) are advised to contact PLUSline at 1800-88-0000 so that an immediate action can be taken to avoid accidents,"she added. -- BERNAMA
